Where it all began.

This is where it all began. When I was invited to attend the birth of my friend Yael’s first child (pictured here), back in 2001. She was the kind of person who loved to be touched all labor long. My hand was still cupping her sacrum when this photo was taken.

Fast forward to the second birth I attended, where my friend literally could not tolerate a hand on her body. These were perfect early doula experiences, demonstrating the range that touch can play in the realm of birth support.

Over time I came to learn that most people fall somewhere in between these two extremes; preferring certain types of touch over others at different moments throughout the birth experience. Over the course of hundreds of births I did come to understand the language of touch for birth, including the commonalities in what most people do and don’t want in the way of touch during labor, which ultimately became the curriculum for my Comforting Touch for Birth classes.

Touch is such a powerful birth support tool, not only on the physical level for mitigating pain and tension, but also for the ways in which it impacts people’s hearts and souls. Our touch communicates so much; that you are safe, loved, held, connected, tethered, and more.

It is truly my mission that every doula and expectant parent who wants to feel confident and capable, bringing touch into birth, has the ability to do so. With skill. With ease. With fluency....

If you want to feel more fluent with your touch; more confident, more capable, more in touch with your intuition, more clear on the nuances of what, when, and how to offer this element of your support, I've got you!
